Heat Exhaustion: Why Summer and Me Are Not A Happy Couple

Ever since I was younger, I always had a sensitivity to heat. It could be from spending too many hours in the sun without proper hydration, or just be the heat itself.

One time that I can remember, I passed out. We were standing on-line to get donuts and I turned to my mom and said that I didn’t feel well. The next ting that I could remember was being iced down while my family tried to give me fluids. That bought of illness lasted 2 days. Since then, heat and humidity would get me sick.

I would go through the usual symptoms: dizziness, nausea, and loss of appetite. These are things that I learned to get used to. I don’t stay out in the heat for long times during the day. When the temperature starts to rise in the summer, I stock my fridge with fruit and Ensure (for loss of appetite).

Breastfeeding in the summer is difficult with this sensitivity. Sometimes it feels like it doesn’t matter how much I can drink during the day, it is never enough.

Despite all of that, as a mom, I just to make sure that my daughter has a great time this summer. This will be done without being reckless, or foolish on my part. The good thing about being a stay at home mom, I don’t have to go out everyday if I don’t want or need to. I can get some “rest” when necessary.

After running around yesterday, and being sick last night, I have no problems watching my daughter explore the living room while rediscovering her toys again.
