10 Things I Wish I Knew 2 Years Ago

10. Newborns don’t need toys, you are the toy.

09. The house will fall apart. It will never look the same as it did before kids.

08. You will be too tired to eat / cook.

07. You will always feel like there’s not enough time in the day.

06. Yes, you’ve done the same thing every morning for the past 6 months.

05. Crying waits for no one.

04. You and your partner will be walking zombies.

03. Showers are a luxury but necessary. Want to soak in the tub? Now you’re asking for too much.

02. For the first 3 months, you won’t care if your clothes don’t match. At the end of the day it will all be one color anyway.

01. You will question your sanity for signing up for this torture.

Love this! It’s so true, all of it.

Also? Re: #9? YES. I kept a very tidy house before I became a mom. Now, I look at it like this: if I have to give up something off the list of necessities (cooking, caring for child, earning money and cleaning), which works best for me?

Cleaning! 100% of the time, the answer is cleaning. That being said, I am thinking of hiring someone to come in a couple times a month just so I don’t have repeats of last Sunday’s embarrassment. (“Oh, hai, buddy of my S.O. Welcome to my totally tidy house in a moment of total personal tidiness!” Oy!)

    • I am so with you on out sourcing the cleaning. I feel like I put something away, and something always take its place. Ahh, to be free of cleanoig for a week…now that’s a vacation!

  2. I enjoyed your list – so true! Hang in there though – It does get better.

    • Thank you for the encouragement! I am at least relieved to know it does indeed get better. I’m sure at each stage in our children’s lives, there will be other challenges.
